Repetitive Strain Injuries (R.S.I.) occur from repeated physical movements doing damage to tendons, nerves, muscles and other soft body tissues. This results in tightness, discomfort, stiffness, or pain in the hands, wrists, fingers, forearms, or elbows. Other complaints are tingling, coldness and/or numbness in the hands, clumsiness or loss of strength and coordination in the hands, sometimes even pain that wakes you up at night.

The utilization of computers and information technology has changed the nature of office work substantially in the 1990s. Despite the great advances of high technology in the office, the physical working conditions have not changed essentially. Daily toil at the video display terminal is taking a toll on millions of clerical workers, but also intensive gamers and CAD/CAM engineers, causing constant tension in the neck and shoulders, disturbing the blood circulation in the muscles. This results in muscular fatigue and pain.

Where or how serious you are injured, and how best to treat it, varies from person to person. However:

THERE ARE NO QUICK FIXES!

Healing can happen, but it takes months, sometimes years.

PREVENTION IS THE BEST PRESCRIPTION!

Of course you will still have to be able to reach both keyboard and mouse with one hand, without having to raise your arm unnecessarily.

For this purpose, we recommend ERGOREST® forearm rests.

Ergorest in useERGOREST® forearm rests take over the supporting role of your arms and shoulders. The muscular tension in the shoulders can be decreased down to one tenth of the normal level. Yet the user has got almost unlimited freedom of movement and can reach all space on and beside the keyboard easily.

The height is simply adapted. A model with integrated mouse pad is also available.

CONSTRUCTION
By using light metals and aluminium alloy for the frame parts and clamps, and polyamid for the plastic parts, the ERGOREST® forearm rest has got reduced weight, is very stable and easy-to-use. The padding is made of foam plastic; the upholstery consists of genuine leather.

USAGE

Adjustable Fastening Unit (see figure 1)
The ERGOREST® can be attached to every worktop with a thickness from 15-43 mm. In case of thicker tops (34-64 mm), the forearm rest is being delivered with a larger fastening upper part (1). Adjust the opening by loosening the screw A and tighten carefully when the opening is right. Then, tighten the forearm rest to the worktop with screw B.

Height Adjustment
The working height of the ERGOREST® forearm rest is adjusted by screw C. The adjustable height of the version displayed in figure 1 measures 75 mm. To lift the rest, turn the screw clockwise. Turn in the other direction to lower the rest.

Removable Pads
The pads (9) are fastened with tacks and can be removed by pulling the edge up with your fingers. Refasten by pressing the pads against the tacks. Careful: holes must match!

Installation of Ergorest armrests

INSTALLATION (pict. 2)

The ERGOREST® forearm rests are mounted to the front of your worktop, about 60 cm apart. Depending of course on keyboard or worktop construction. Please contact us if you encounter any problems.

CORRECT WORKING POSTURE (figure 3)

Correct Working Posture
The best working posture is achieved when the height of the chair, the back of the chair, the (possible) footrest and the height of the forearm rests are correctly adjusted to the height of the worktop. In a correct working posture the position of the head and neck is natural, the angle between the body, elbows and knees is over 100 degrees. The back of the chair is reclined sufficiently, the front of the chair does not press the tights and the feet rest preferably on a footrest. See picture 3.

So: start with adjusting the height of the desktop or chair to your sitting posture. Adjust then the height of the forearm rests with the screw (C) located beneath the arm. The rests should provide the forearms light support.

NOTE: Do not adjust the forearm rests too high!

USE

Place your arm on the rest so that the forearm is balanced on the pad. That is how you can best take advantage of the support and movability offered by ERGOREST®.

The ERGOREST® forearm rest provides the user easy movability when the arm is placed on the rest. However, its movability is limited when not in use. This prevents the forearm rest from moving to the side when the arm is occasionally lifted from the pad.

MAINTENANCE AND CARE

The ERGOREST® forearm rest is maintenance free. Wipe the metal parts with a damp cloth. Keep water and moisture away from the joints. Clean the pads with a mild soap-and-water solution.

Use alcohol solution to remove ink, lipstick and other stains. Have the pad replaced when worn or damaged.
